Mike Carpenter shared this photo.  It is a shot of North Carolina State University from the air.  The orphanage is barely visible in the upper left hand corner.  The three buildings are the New Orphanage.  I'm not sure but the likely date of the photo is mid to late 60's.  If anyone knows, please share.  Thanks Mike for this great photo.

  1. I am looking for people who might have been in this orphanage from 1920 until 1928. My grandfather was put in an orphange along with his 6 siblings when their mother died in 1920. The children ages ran from age 14 to 2. My grandfather was 6. I think the younger children were adoped out and their names were changed. My grandfather had his last name, Joe F Gainey. He never saw his father again and didn't find his siblings until he was in his 40s. If anyone has any suggestions please contact me. The children were from Johnston Co, Bentonville-Banner area.

    Thank you, Pamela artist-bythesea@hotmail.com

    1. Hi Pamela - Did you find any information from this time frame? My grandmother's cousin was Sister Mary Rita Dever who was at the orphanage during this timeframe. I'm trying to find more information about her time there. Anything you could share would be appreciated. Thank you.

  2. I think we may be related... My Mother was a Faint and she and all her siblings were out in Nazareth also.
In doing my ancestry, I've learned that her Grandfather had half siblings that he got custody of when their mother died,... He put them all in Nazareth also. Their mother was actually one year younger than him, his father remarried a woman 20 years younger than him and was having kids at the same exact time he was... I'll look into that exact name and location more and get back to you.
